Adaptive Beamforming Algorithm Based on Coherent Noncircular Signal

Abstract: Spatial smoothing is a common method of adaptive beamforming based on the coherent circular arrivals, but it loses the aperture of the array. In this paper, a new algorithm which uses the extended spatial smoothing method with full array weighted is proposed. First, the extended spatial smoothing method is exploited into beamforming for coherent noncircular signals, and its efficiency is proved in theory. Compared with the conventional spatial smoothing method, the number of the total signals (composed of the desired signal, the interferences and the background noise) is improved. Then, to decorrelate more efficiently, subarrays are weighted by the virtual beamforming. Finally, the subarray beamforming weight vector is extended to the full array beamforming weight vector by the transformation matrix. The full weighted method avoids the loss of aperture. Simulation results support the theoretical predictions.
