Abstract:

In order to meet large impact angle constraint, missile trajectories need to become more curving. However, target may move out of the seeker’s Field of View (FOV) during an engagement, thus causing the failure of lock on. A new guidance law for stationary & moving targets is presented to deal with this problem. A switching term, called Look Angle Restriction Item (LARI) is designed to modify the Impact Angle Control Navigation Guidance (IACNG) Law. The IACNG works throughout the flight time and gives the guarantee of hitting targets at a desire impact angle. The LARI turns on only when the look angle exceeds the predefined threshold to maintain the target always inside of missile seeker’s FOV. The information of relative distance is not needed by the proposed guidance law, and its performance is demonstrated by simulation. The results show that the new method is very effective for look angle restriction while still retaining the advantage of the original guidance law.
