Energy Transfer Characteristics of Symmetrical Space Two Stage Reflected Solar Concentrator

Abstract:

Concentration ratio and irradiance uniformity are the most two significant attributes for evaluating a Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) system. In this paper, the mathematical model of symmetrical Two stage reflected concentrator is established. The effect of tilt angles of primary off axis concentrator and secondary flat mirror on the concentration ratio and irradiance uniformity is analyzed based on geometrical optics. So that the predominant parameter combinations are obtained. The transmission of concentrated solar power is simulated by Monte Carlo ray tracing method (MCRT). And the flux distribution of receiving region is also analysed. The results show that the symmetrical Two stage reflected concentrator has the characteristic of irradiance uniformity and proper concentration ratio when the tilt angles of primary off axis concentrator and secondary flat mirror and the height of receiving region fit well. This is suitable for the CPV system in space.
