Review on Ablation Research of Insulation Materials for Solid Rocket Motors

 In order to summarize the research results and sort out the future development direction, the research progress in insulation material ablation of solid rocket motors is reviewed. Firstly, the basic concept and research significance of the insulation material ablation are summarized. Then the innovative and representative researches are introduced and evaluated from the aspects of the ablation experiment methods and devices, ablation characteristics and mechanism, and ablation models of the insulation materials. The results show that the current ablation researches appear a trend from macro to micro, and the researches on sub-processes are more in-depth and meticulous, and more emphasis is placed on the coupling of multiple physical processes such as flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions during ablation. In the future, with the applications of new high energy propellants, the development of nano-materials and the increasing demand for refined modeling, the research on insulation material ablation will face new challenges and usher in new development opportunities.
