Abstract: According to the latest progress of the lunar surveying and mapping, this paper focuses on the discipline system of the lunar surveying and mapping. The concept of lunar surveying and mapping theory is traced and expanded. The lunar surveying and mapping has many differences with the earth surveying and mapping. This paper reconstructs the classification of the lunar surveying and mapping by considering the classification of the earth surveying and mapping as well as the particularity of the lunar surveying and mapping. The main discipline classifications are listed. The definition and research status of each discipline is sorted out in detail. Finally, five application areas of lunar surveying and mapping are prospected in this paper. It is necessary to make research on the theory of the lunar surveying and mapping. An integrated discipline system of the lunar surveying and mapping needs to be formed as soon as possible. This work will promote the development of space science in China and guarantee the implementation of the follow up lunar exploration projects.
