Progress in Autonomous Navigation and Guidance Technology for Mars Powered Descent Landing

Abstract: Focusing on the requirement of Mars pinpoint soft landing, this paper clarifies the necessity of Mars powered descent navigation and guidance technology. The navigation and guidance problems are analyzed. The challenges of powered descent navigation and guidance are summarized. The development of navigation and guidance technology is reviewed. Aiming at landing on Mars hazardous terrains, the key problems that need to be addressed to realize accurate autonomous navigation and guidance are proposed.
