Abstract: In view of the characteristics that the thrust and efficiency of a traditional propeller are significantly reduced due to the influence of atmospheric density and other environmental changes, a new type of ion wind power propulsion system is proposed to apply to the stratospheric airship, the dynamics model and the corresponding thrust model are established, the trajectory tracking and fixed point control simulation are carried out through the Simulink module, and the flight path of the propeller and ion wind as the main power of the stratospheric airship at a height from 15 km to 30 km is compared and analyzed. The results show that, at a power of 40 kW and a height above 20 km, the offset and transient response time of the flight curve of the ionic powered airship are far less than those of the propeller powered airship. By optimizing the structure of ion wind propeller and selecting the best voltage and electrode gap, it is possible to realize ion wind as the main thrust engine of airship.
